UE5.1: LiveLink VCam
With the LiveLink VCam app, users can turn their iPad or iPhone into a virtual camera in UE, not only to explore the virtual world but also to adjust parameters such as focus, zoom, and aperture, and record camera data, animation, and return timecode, among other things, on the aforementioned device.
Note: Currently only available on iOS devices.
Prerequisite:
- Enable plugins: Virtual Camera, Live Link, Remote Session, and Apple ARKit.
- Project Settings > Plugins > UDP Message > Unicast Endpoint: Enter the local IPv4 address (be sure to add:0 at the end).
- Project Settings > Rendering > Default Settings > Frame Buffer Pixel Format: Change to 8bit RGBA.
- Install the LiveLink VCam app on your iPad.
Setup:
Add a VirtualCamera2 actor to the scene.
2. Window > Live Link, add the iPad's Live Link Source.
3. VirtualCamera2 Actor > VCam > Output Providers: Check "is Active."
4. Enter the computer's IP address in the iPad app and connect.
If the VirtualCamera2 Actor does not have the VCam option, you can add it manually. (Manually Apply Output Providers > Unreal Remote)
Feature Introduction:

Adjust the lens:
Slide the sliders on the left and right to adjust the aperture and focus, or enter the numbers directly.
Click on "STATS" above to display camera data.
Adjust app settings:
Map Color: Show the map in black and white or color.
Start at Home: Start the position at the VirtualCamera Actor's location.
Rack Focus Speed: Change the speed of the camera's zoom.
Joystick Sensitivity: Adjust the sensitivity of the coordinate joystick.
Filmback: Choose from a variety of preset Filmbacks.
Adjust dynamic parameters:
Individual adjustment of each axis of translation and rotation, or lock it.
Adjust the Stabilization to reduce camera shake.
Adjust Focus and save Preset:
Up to 5 Focus Presets can be saved.
Adjust the camera position:
Adjust the joystick to move the camera. Click on the paper airplane icon to move more smoothly, and the movement will not be locked on the X. Y axis.
Take Snapshot:
Click on the camera icon in the lower right corner to take a snapshot. After completion, it will be automatically placed in the Snapshots folder.
Record Sequence:
Unlock to record Sequence. The recorded Sequence will be placed in the Cinematics folder.
Play back Sequence:
Click on the film icon on the left to play back the Sequence.
Troubleshooting:
LiveLink cannot connect:
Project Settings > Plugins > UDP Message > Static Endpoints: Add:6666
Reset all LiveLink settings on the tablet.
Turn off the firewall and change the network to a private connection.
Make sure the LiveLink plugin is not disconnected.
Make sure the network environment is clean and not disturbed.
iPad cannot connect:
VirtualCamera > VCam > Virtual Camera: Turn off and restart Enabled.
VirtualCamera > VCam > Virtual Camera: Reset Live Link Subject first.
VirtualCamera > VCam > Virtual Camera > Output Providers > Output: Turn off and restart "Is Active."
After clearing the LiveLink VCam app in the background, open it again.
Confirm that the tablet and computer are on the same domain.
Confirm the IPv4 location.
